Paying a tribute to the richest dance forms of India, Presidium celebrated
International Dance Day in collaboration with 'SPIC MACAY'. Promoting India's
classical dance forms the event highlighted Odissi and Kathak. Legendary dancers
Ms Sujata Mohapatra who is an expert Odissi dancer, Ms Kavita Diwedi another
famous Odissi artist and Ms Malti Shyam who is a well known Kathak dancer;
participated and performed at the workshop.
Learned exponent of Odissi,
Ms Sujata Mohapatra who is a winner of various prestigious awards such as
'Aditya Birla Kala Niketan Award', 'Top Grade Artist of Doordarshan-Outstanding
Category Award' etc; gave a beautiful performance along with her troop and
enlightened young Presidians about various technicalities of the dance form.
Another well known Odissi artist, Ms kavita Diwedi, also gave an enchanting
performance at the event. And, Ms Malati Shyam Ji threw light on the typical
mudras of 'Kathak'; including 4 corners , peacock and Krishna dance and
tatkaar'.
Every nook and corner of school was decorated with the pictures
and achievements of these legends. The environment was sublimed with festivity.
Watching the legends performing in their very exotic style made the workshop a
great experience for the students as well as teachers.
Some of the
eminent personalities who attended the event were: Ms Leela Venkatraman, the
renowned dance critic who is associated with SPIC MACAY for past so many years;
and Ms Shashi Prabha, who is a famous journalist.
